About Seville
Seville, on the Guadalquivir River, is the capital of Spain's Andalusia region. Bearing traces of its Moorish past, it became the hub of trade with the Americas in the 16th century.
The cathedral and its Giralda tower, the Alcázar palace, courtyards lined with orange trees and flamenco define its character.
How many days do you need?
Two or three days are enough: one for the Cathedral, the Giralda and the Alcázar, one for the Plaza de España, María Luisa Park and Triana. A third day can go to the Metropol Parasol and the Macarena district or a flamenco show.
Where to stay
- Santa Cruz — The old Jewish quarter beside the Cathedral and the Alcázar, with narrow lanes.
- Arenal — Central, between the river and the Cathedral.
- Triana — Across the river, with ceramics workshops and local bars.
From the airport to the city
Seville Airport (SVQ) is about 6 miles northeast of the centre. The EA airport bus links it with Plaza de Armas in the centre, stopping at Santa Justa train station; taxis are also common.
Getting around
Most of the historic centre is walkable. Tussam buses and a short tram line serve the city, while the single metro line mainly reaches outer districts.
Good to know
- Summer temperatures often climb above 104 °F; spring and autumn are the best seasons.
- The Alcázar and the Cathedral use timed tickets; buy them in advance.
- Accommodation fills up quickly during Semana Santa (Holy Week) and the April Fair. The currency is the euro.
