About Grand Baie
Grand Baie is a coastal village on the north coast of Mauritius, mostly in the Rivière du Rempart District. It has grown around a sheltered bay into one of the island's busiest holiday centres.
Boat trips on the bay, small beaches such as La Cuvette, restaurants, a shopping mall and nightlife stand out. From nearby Cap Malheureux you can see the islet of Coin de Mire, and the botanical garden at Pamplemousses is a short drive away.
How many days do you need?
Three to five days covers the bay and beaches, a boat trip to the northern islets and a day out to Pamplemousses and Port Louis.
From the airport to the city
Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport (MRU) is at Plaine Magnien in the south-east of the island, about 43–47 miles from Grand Baie; the drive takes 1 to 1.5 hours in normal traffic. There is no direct bus: you can take bus 198 to Port Louis and change there for Grand Baie. Most visitors use a taxi or hotel transfer.
