About Victoria Falls
Victoria Falls is a small town in western Zimbabwe beside the famous falls on the Zambezi River. Locally the falls are known as Mosi-oa-Tunya, "the smoke that thunders".
Shared with Zambia, the falls are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and the town is a hub for river cruises, safaris and adventure sports.
How many days do you need?
Two or three days are enough: one for the trails along the falls and the bridge, and one for a safari in Zambezi National Park and a sunset river cruise. You can also cross to Livingstone on the Zambian side.
Where to stay
- Town centre — Hotels within walking distance of the falls and restaurants.
- Zambezi riverside — Quiet lodges overlooking the river.
- Reserves outside town — Safari camps close to the wildlife.
From the airport to the city
Victoria Falls Airport (VFA) lies south of town; use a hotel transfer or a taxi. On the Zambian side, Livingstone is served by Harry Mwaanga Nkumbula International Airport.
Getting around
The town is small and the centre is walkable; take a taxi at night because of wild animals. The border post on the bridge is used to cross into Zambia.
Good to know
- Water flow peaks roughly from February to May, when spray can hide the view; it drops by the end of the dry season (September–November).
- If you plan to cross borders, check current visa rules, including the KAZA UniVisa.
- US dollars are widely used in Zimbabwe; the local currency is the ZiG. English is widely spoken.
