About Agadir
Agadir is a port and resort city on the Atlantic at the mouth of the Souss plain. Largely destroyed by the 1960 earthquake, it was rebuilt to a modern plan.
A long beach and promenade, the hilltop ruins of Agadir Oufella, the large Souk El Had market and nearby surf villages are the main draws.
How many days do you need?
A few days suit a relaxed beach stay: one day for Agadir Oufella and Souk El Had, another for Taghazout to the north or Souss-Massa National Park to the south.
Where to stay
- Seafront — Hotels and resorts along the beach.
- Taghazout — A small village to the north with surf-oriented stays.
From the airport to the city
Al Massira Airport (AGA) is about 16 miles southeast of the city. A 'grand taxi' or hotel transfer takes you into town; agree on the fare in advance.
Getting around
Orange 'petit taxis' and city buses serve the city. There is no rail link; buses run to Marrakesh and Essaouira.
Good to know
- The ocean stays cool even in summer; follow wave and current warnings on the beach.
- Its mild winters draw many visitors from Europe.
- The currency is the Moroccan dirham; taking it out of the country is restricted.
