About Miami
Miami, on the southeastern tip of Florida, is a major port and a cultural gateway between the United States, Latin America and the Caribbean. Incorporated in 1896, it grew rapidly during the 20th century.
Miami Beach's Art Deco Historic District and South Beach, Cuban culture in Little Havana, Wynwood's street art and the nearby Everglades define a visit.
Natural phenomena and seasons
- Hurricane season (June–November) — June–November is the Atlantic hurricane season (peak August–October). If you travel then, choose flexible bookings and follow official warnings.
How many days do you need?
Three days are enough: one for South Beach and the Art Deco district, one for Little Havana and Wynwood, and one for Vizcaya, Coconut Grove or a day trip to Everglades National Park.
Where to stay
- South Beach — On the beach, close to the Art Deco buildings and nightlife.
- Downtown and Brickell — High-rise hotels with Metrorail and free Metromover access.
- Coconut Grove — A leafy, quieter bayside neighbourhood.
From the airport to the city
Miami International Airport (MIA) is about 8 miles west of Downtown. The MIA Mover train links the terminal to the Miami Intermodal Center, where Metrorail's Orange Line runs to Downtown. Buses connect to Miami Beach, and taxis and ride-hailing are widely available.
Getting around
Metrorail and the free Metromover cover Downtown and Brickell, and buses reach Miami Beach, but a car or ride-hailing is often easier for longer distances. South Beach itself is easy to explore on foot or by bike.
