About Ottawa
Ottawa, on the Ottawa River, was chosen as the capital by Queen Victoria in 1857.
Parliament Hill, the UNESCO-listed Rideau Canal and the National Gallery of Canada are its symbols. In winter the canal turns into a skating rink.
