About Nevşehir
The landscape of Nevşehir, the heart of Cappadocia, was shaped by volcanoes. Ash from Erciyes, Hasan Dağı and Göllüdağ formed thick layers of tuff, and wind and rain wore this soft rock into fairy chimneys.
Over centuries people carved homes, churches and underground cities into the rock. Today's city centre grew when Grand Vizier Nevşehirli Damat İbrahim Pasha, born here in the 18th century, rebuilt his home village.
The Cappadocia region welcomed about 4.5 million visitors in 2025.
