About İzmir
İzmir's ancient name was Smyrna, and it is known as one of the oldest port settlements on the Aegean. Kadifekale and the Agora carry traces of this long past within the city.
Two great cities of the ancient world, Ephesus and Pergamon, also lie within the province. The Kordon waterfront, Kemeraltı Bazaar and the Çeşme peninsula make up the city's face today.
In 2025, about 1.6 million (1,628,089) foreign visitors entered Türkiye through İzmir.
