About Baku
Baku lies on the Caspian Sea, on the Absheron Peninsula. It grew rapidly in the late 19th century thanks to oil.
The walled Old City (İçərişəhər), the Maiden Tower and the Palace of the Shirvanshahs are on the UNESCO World Heritage list. The Flame Towers are the city's modern symbol.
