About Antalya

The city was founded in the 2nd century BC by King Attalus II of Pergamon. Named after its founder, Attaleia became one of the main ports of the Pamphylian coast; the gate built to mark Hadrian's visit in AD 130 still stands at the entrance to Kaleiçi.

Taken by the Seljuks in 1207 and by the Ottomans in the late 14th century, Antalya has grown since the 1970s into one of Türkiye's largest tourism centres.

In 2025, about 16 million (16,007,580) foreign visitors entered Türkiye through Antalya.
