About Amasya
Amasya stretches along both banks of the Yeşilırmak, enclosed by steep cliffs. In antiquity it was the capital of the Kingdom of Pontus; the geographer Strabo was born here.
The Pontic royal tombs carved into the cliffs and the historic riverside Yalıboyu houses are the city's symbols. In Ottoman times it was one of the provincial seats where princes were trained.
