Afyonkarahisar

Afyonkarahisar takes its name from the castle on the volcanic rock rising in the middle of the city. The Great Offensive of the War of Independence began on its soil.

The province is known for its thermal springs, clotted cream (kaymak) and sucuk sausage. Rock monuments in the Phrygian Valley carry traces of the Phrygians, one of Anatolia's ancient civilisations.
